Why Agile?

Agile approaches to software development deliver many benefits, compared to usual approaches;

  • Quicker delivery of business value

  • Reduced risk

  • Easier adaptability to changing requirements

  • Better visibility into progress

Challenges in adopting Agile

Despite the benefits of Agile, many organizations have difficulty in sustaining and scaling Agile practices. Agile concepts are simple to learn but difficult to practice. The difficulty is in the changes that are required in people's mindsets. A summary of six key challenges in adopting Agile across the organization is listed below;

  • Ineffective Agile knowledge and experience

  • Continuing old practices

  • Inconsistent use of Agile concepts and practices

  • Weak Executive sponsorship

  • Lack of buy-in from middle management

  • Unrealistic time expectations for being agile, at an enterprise level

Agile transformation - the VTHINK suggested approach

At VTHINK, we are experts in helping organizations effectively adopt and sustain Agile. Depending on an organization’s circumstances we can design, guide and support an Agile transformation journey. We have proven expertise in Scrum, Kanban and Lean techniques. While we recognize that every organization is different and influenced by the prevailing culture of delivery teams, we have fine-tuned a practical framework that can be easily adapted for any organization.

Our approach is unique. It is based on developing an "Agile Mindset" in people. An Agile Mindset is the key to long-lasting and sustainable transformation.

Agile Mindset = Agile Knowledge + Agile Skills + Agile Attitudes

We recommend our innovative, field-tested and proven three-phased approach to developing the Agile Mindset. Our approach also includes organizational change management initiatives. We recommend executing an "Agile Maturity" assessment at the beginning of Phase # 1 and at the conclusion of Phase # 2. This will provide a valuable insight to the progress achieved and highlight focus areas to work on in Phase # 3.

Agile Maturity
Organizations that adopt an Agile approach to developing products or delivering projects tend to be somewhere on the maturity curve from "Beginner" to "Mature" stages. Several factors such as the Organizational culture and mindset, Leadership, propensity for managing sustained change, quality of coaches / support employed on the adoption journey, time invested, etc determine maturity levels.
VTHINK has developed a formal approach to assessing the Agile maturity levels in organizations by observing how individuals and teams consistently employ Agile concepts and practices. We usually undertake this assessment prior to the transformation assignment to establish a reference benchmark and periodically to assess progress in maturity.
